Flood alert for Tyne estuary

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

The threat of flooding from this morning's high tide has now passed, however water levels on the Tyne Estuary tomorrow morning, Wednesday 10/09/2025, will be higher than normal due to the high tide.

Flooding is possible at riverside footpaths and low lying land and roads between 04:45 AM and 6:00 AM on 10/09/2025, however conditions can apply for two to four hours on either side of a high tide.

We will continue to monitor levels closely and re-issue the flood alert for future tides if required.

Please be careful along riverside footpaths and low lying land and roads which may be flooded.

This message will be updated by 11:00 AM on 10/09/2025, or as the situation changes.

Flood alert area: Tyne estuary from Wylam to the North Sea coast, including Watergate Car Park at Newcastle Quayside.
