Flood alert for Exmoor Rivers

Forecast high river levels overnight may lead to flooding.
Flooding is possible from the early hours of 24 January 2026 .
Rivers are expected to rise overnight and early on Saturday morning. Catchments are saturated and river levels will remain high throughout the weekend. Forecast levels may cause flooding to low lying land and roads close to the rivers. The main areas of concern are Lynton, Lynmouth, Challacombe, Meethe, South Molton, Dulverton, Brushford, Winsford, Exton and Exford.
We are closely monitoring the situation .
Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water .
This message will be updated by 3:30PM on 24 January 2026 or as the situation changes.
Flood alert area: the Upper River Exe from Exford to Exebridge, the Rivers Barle, Lyn, Mole and Bray and their tributaries, and coastal streams from Combe Martin to Lynton.
