Flood warning for Groundwater flooding in the Lower Allen Vale

Groundwater levels in Cranborne Chase are beginning to plateau but remain high. Areas that could be affected include: Lower Allen Vale including New Town, Witchampton. The groundwater level at Woodyates borehole is 105.14m, there is further rainfall expected this week which may lead to levels rising again over the weekend. Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. Residents may experience inundation of septic tanks and sewer systems. Properties may experience flooding in cellars in affected areas. Flooding of roads is expected, take particular care when driving, both for your own safety and to prevent flooding to others. Roads may have become damaged by floodwater. Where groundwater is near the surface, intense rainfall will lead to surface water flooding. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. If you have a pump, make sure it is working and switched on. Think about alternative power sources in case of power cuts. This message will be updated by 1:00 PM on 23 February 2026.
