Flood alert for Lower River Ems

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

High river levels on Tuesday may lead to flooding.

Flooding is possible on 27 January 2026 from 05:00, as a lot of rain is forecast (35mm).

If as much rain falls as predicted, minor flooding could affect fields, Brook Meadows, rural roads, and gardens of properties on North Street, River Street and at the Wren Centre, Westbourne. Also near Lumley Mill and Victoria Terrace, Emsworth. Rain should ease by 13:00 on 27/01/2026. River levels and flood risk should begin to reduce by 16:00 on 27/01/2026, but with further showers at times over the coming days, further small river rises could be possible at times Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, and Thursday evening. However further flood risk is thought unlikely.

We are closely monitoring the situation operating our structure at Constant Springs, and clearing debris screens.

Consider activating any flood protection products you may have , including in Westbourne and Emsworth, where flooding may occur quickly.

This message will be updated by 4:00PM on 27 January 2026 or as the situation changes.

Flood alert area: The River Ems and tributaries from Racton to Emsworth Harbour including Westbourne.
