Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flood alert for Danes Stream

The water level in the Danes Stream is very high. In the last 24 hours, nearly 25 mm of rain has been recorded at Stem Lane. Milford Dam has operated correctly to reduce the amount of water flowing to Milford on Sea. However, the water level in the village is very high and some footpath flooding is occurring. Gardens at Milford on Sea High Street, may also be affected. No impacts are expected at Ashley. It is currently high tide at Lymington, and this will reduce the river’s capacity to drain to the sea until at least 16:00 this afternoon (28/03/2024). Tomorrow (29/03/2024) up to 16mm of rainfall is forecast. Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be fairly dry. Following high tide this afternoon, the level in the river should reduce, and no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast. Until this evening, please keep away from the riverside footpaths in Milford on Sea, especially at Milford Bridge opposite Lucerne Road. If footpaths are flooded it will be difficult to see where the edge of the main river channel is. This message will be updated by 10:00 29/03/2024.
