Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Denton

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

High groundwater levels may lead to flooding.

Flooding is possible from 30/01/2026, after above average rainfall in January.

Minor flood impacts could affect fields, the recreation ground, and a small number of cellars in Denton. A small amount of water may appear on Denton Road. Groundwater at Houndean Bottom borehole is expected to stop rising around the 31/01/2026. However, small amounts of rain are forecast Friday and Saturday, with the suggestion of more rain next week. Further groundwater rise could be possible next week, which may cause water to flow towards Vicarage Close and affect areas near the three ponds in South Heighton. If rain continues, flood impacts may remain until mid February.

We are closely monitoring the situation , including rainfall, groundwater and forecasts.

Don't put yourself or others at risk . Avoid roads that flood (Denton Road). Ensure pumps work.

This message will be updated by 6:00PM on 02 February 2026 or as the situation changes.
