Flood alert for Coast from Sandgate to Dungeness

High tides, strong winds and large waves tomorrow morning may lead to flooding.
Flooding is possible from 10:45am to 2:45pm on 23 October 2025.
Low lying land near the coast is expected to be most affected, particularly around St Mary's Bay, Dymchurch and Hythe. The detailed forecast is for a peak tide of 4.1m AoD at Rye at 12:45pm BST, with Force 9 westerly winds and 2.8m waves. This level includes a surge of 0.34m.
We are closely monitoring the situation and closing flood gates.
Avoid beaches and coastal promenades, which may be flooded .

Flood alert area: Coast and tidal areas from Sandgate to Lydd, including Hythe, Dymchurch, St Marys Bay, Littlestone, Greatstone, New Romney and communities on the Romney Marsh up to the Royal Military Canal.
