Flood warning for Rivers Wreake and Soar for riverside properties near Syston and Birstall

Rising river levels are expected to cause flooding this evening. 

Flooding is expected on 28 February 2026 from approximately 8PM. 

Areas most at risk are properties at Ashmead Crescent, Wanlip Road, Fosse Way, Mill Lane, Meadow Lane, and Watermead Country Park. Light rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. River levels at the Freemans Weir Gauge will rise until approximately midnight tonight, 28/02/2026. Levels will remain high until tomorrow afternoon, 01/03/2026. 

We are closely monitoring the situation  

Start acting on your flood plan if you have one and move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety.
