Flood alert for Rivers Cocker, Marron and Derwent

Rising river levels overnight may lead to flooding. 

Flooding is possible on 14 December 2025 . 

Further heavy rainfall is forecast from this evening until Monday (15/12/2025), which will cause river levels to rise significantly and may lead to Flood Warnings being issued. Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers. 

We are closely monitoring the situation . 

Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses . 

This message will be updated by 10:00AM on 14 December 2025 or as the situation changes.

Flood alert area: Lower Derwent from Bassenthwaite Lake to the coast at Workington. The Cocker from Crummock Water to Cockermouth. The River Marron from Ullock to its confluence with the Derwent near Bridgefoot.
