Flood alert for Lower River Calder catchment

Widespread heavy rain associated with Storm Bert, possibly falling as snow at first, is expected across the Lower Calder catchment from around 5 a.m Saturday 23 November, with the rain persisting for much of the day. River levels are expected to rise through the afternoon and evening, potentially peaking on the Calder at Mirfield late Saturday evening.
Impacts are possible from river and surface water flooding in the Mirfield, Horbury and Wakefield Area, including Calder View Road from around mid afternoon onwards. Further rainfall is expected at times on Sunday 24 November with additional impacts possible.
We are closely monitoring the situation and our Area Incident Room will be open through the weekend.
Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water or walking near swollen rivers, particularly on Saturday when gale force winds are forecast.
Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads near rivers.
