Flood alert for Upper River Aire catchment

Widespread heavy rain associated with Storm Bert, and snow over higher ground, is expected across the Upper Aire catchment from around 5a.m Saturday 23 November, with rain persisting for much of the day. River levels are expected to rise as a result and flooding is possible.

River levels will potentially peak in Kildwick late on Saturday evening. There may also be surface water flooding affecting low spots on local roads in areas affected by the heaviest rain. Levels may fall somewhat going into Sunday morning, however further rainfall is expected on Sunday 24 November with additional impacts possible.

Flooding is possible near the River Aire, Eller Beck, Waller Hill Beck, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected.

We are closely monitoring the situation and our Area Incident Room will be open through the weekend.

Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water or walking near swollen rivers, particularly on Saturday when gale force winds are forecast.
