Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flood alert for Tyne and Wear coast

This Flood Alert has been issued because some minor flooding to coastal roads and footpaths is likely tomorrow morning on Thursday 20/01/2022 between 04:00 AM and 09:00 AM. Large offshore waves are being created by strong north westerly winds. Areas most at risk include beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads at Seaburn lower promenade and Seaham harbour and docks. No property flooding is expected. We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert for tomorrow afternoon’s tide if necessary. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated by 10:00 AM on 20/01/2022, or as the situation changes.
