Flood alert for Cuckmere River

The Cuckmere River is rising in Alfriston, following Thursday's rain. Flood impacts will continue to affect North Street, River Lane, The Old Clergy House, Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston. In Hellingly, river levels have now peaked, but remain high. Flooding will continue to affect fields, roads, and gardens of properties on Mill Lane, Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. Only isolated showers are forecast Friday and Saturday. River levels should begin to fall by 17:00 09/01/2025 in Alfriston, and will continue to fall in Hellingly. River levels should return nearer to a normal level by Saturday evening. However, further rain is forecast Sunday which could cause minor flood impacts to return to all Cuckmere communities. We are closely monitoring the situation. Avoid roads that flood (Mill Lane and Church Road Hellingly, North Street Alfriston). This message will be updated by 13:00 10/01/2026.
