Flood alert for Cuckmere River

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

The Cuckmere and Bull Rivers are higher than normal, but have fallen significantly from their recent peak. Small amounts of rain are forecast Thursday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday. River levels will likely rise again Thursday evening, but probably only a small amount. Minor flood impacts, with water approaching roads and properties could be possible on Saturday. River levels should finally begin to fall Sunday. However, more rain is forecast Monday afternoon, which will cause the river to rise again and further flooding could be possible next week. Don't put yourself or others at risk. Avoid roads that flood (Mill Lane and Church Road Hellingly, and North Street Alfriston). This message will be updated by 14:00 30/01/2026.

Flood alert area: Cuckmere River and tributaries from Vines Cross to Exceat Bridge.
