Flood warning for Fittleworth on the Western River Rother

The Western Rother is high and rising. Nearly a month's rain (80mm) has been recorded over the past week. 30mm of which fell in only a few hours Wednesday morning, which is a lot in a short period. From 22:00 27/11/2024 flooding will be extensive in fields. Flood water will affect Fittleworth Mill, and nearby properties in Fittleworth. The B2138 Lower Street road over the river at Fittleworth could be affected by flood water. Only isolated showers are forecast Wednesday evening through to Saturday. The river should begin to fall by 14:00 28/11/2024, but will not return nearer to a normal level until next week. River levels could end up similar to heights seen in January 2024. Some roads, including the B2138 through Fittleworth, may be affected by flood water, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 16:00 28/11/2024
