Flood warning for Fittleworth on the Western River Rother

High river levels are expected to cause flooding on Friday. 

Flooding is expected on 16 January 2026 from 14:00, as a lot of rain (30mm) fell Thursday. 

Flooding will affect fields, extensively. Flood water will affect Fittleworth Mill, and nearby properties in Fittleworth. The B2138 Lower Street road over the river at Fittleworth could be impassable. Only isolated showers are forecast Friday through to Tuesday, which are unlikely to significantly increase flood risk. River levels and flood risk should begin to reduce in Fittleworth by 17:00 16/01/2026. Flood impacts are likely to remain until Saturday afternoon, and the river will not fall nearer to a normal level until the middle of next week. 

We are closely monitoring the situation . 

Don't put yourself or others at risk . Avoid roads that flood (B2138 through Fittleworth).
