Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in Vernham Dean, Upton and the Bourne Valley

High groundwater levels may lead to flooding. 

Flooding is possible . 19mm of rain has been recorded in the last week. 

During that time, the groundwater level at Vernham Dean has risen by 2.5m. Flooding is affecting a small number of cellars in Upton. Septic tanks will also be struggling to operate properly. Today (18/02/2026), between 10 and 20mm of rain is forecast. From Thursday (19/02/2026) to Sunday (22/02/2026), small amounts of rain are forecast. Groundwater levels are beginning to stabilise, but if heavy rain affects the area, then cellar flooding and sewerage system impacts are possible in Hurstbourne Tarrant, Stoke, Vernham Dean and St Mary Bourne, towards the end of February 2026. 

We are closely monitoring the situation . 

Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed . Especially if you are in Upton.
