Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flood alert for The tidal River Yare from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

This message has been issued because some minor flooding to riverside roads and footpaths is likely from 6pm this afternoon, Saturday 21st December and for the next few days. High water levels may last for a few days, until the high tides and tidal surge at Great Yarmouth have passed. This is due to a natural tide locking effect, and tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth is currently restricting the normal drainage of the Broads river system out to sea at low tide. We expect to see high water levels in Brundall and Reedham riverside areas. The current series of high spring tides have peaked, although a tidal surge is restricting the river flows draining out to sea at low tide as normal. There is potential for further Flood Alerts and Flood Warnings to be issued over the next 24 hours. Take care on waterside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are closely monitoring the situation. We will update this message by 10am tomorrow, Sunday 22nd December.

Flood alert area: The tidal River Yare, from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water including Brundall, Cantley, Reedham and Burgh Castle.
