Flood warning for Isolated low lying properties along the tidal River Waveney
Get flood warnings by phone, text or email
This message has been issued because flooding of homes and businesses is likely from 11pm this evening, Sunday 22nd December through to early hours of tomorrow, Monday 23rd December. High water levels may last for a few days, until the high tides and tidal surge at Great Yarmouth have passed. This is due to a natural tide locking effect, and tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth is currently restricting the normal drainage of the Broads river system out to sea at low tide. Areas most at risk are in St Olaves, Somerleyton, Burgh St Peter, Oulton Broad and Beccles. Roads likely to be affected include Beccles Road at St Olaves, Geldeston Lock Lane, Gillingham Dam and Fen Lane in Beccles. The current series of high spring tides have peaked, although a tidal surge is restricting the river flows draining out to sea at low tide as normal. Be ready to take action to protect your property if flooding is expected. We are closely monitoring the situation. We will update this message by 10am tomorrow, Monday 23rd December.
