Flood alert for Lower River Eden

Get flood warnings by phone, text or email

Due to recent rainfall and to further rain expected from this evening into tomorrow Friday 19/09/2025, river levels are forecast to rise and may lead to flooding of low-lying land. Further rainfall is expected throughout the weekend. River levels remain high near the Lower River Eden, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around the River Eden and its tributaries from its confluence with the River Irthing through Crosby-on-Eden and Carlisle to the Solway Firth at Rockcliffe.

Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Refer to local authority website for road closures.

We are closely monitoring rainfall and river levels, clearing debris from weed screens and closing locks and floodgates where needed.

This message will be updated by 10:00 AM tomorrow morning Friday 19/09/2025, or as the situation changes.
