Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford

Groundwater levels are high but slowly falling. In the last week, the level at Preston Candover has fallen by 12cm. At Old Alresford, it has fallen by 13cm. Cellar flooding is expected to be affecting properties in the Candovers, Northington, and Old Alresford. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively in all locations. During the next 5 days, spells of rain and showers, some of which may be heavy, are expected to affect Hampshire, with between 5 and 30mm of rain possible in that time. Groundwater levels may stabilise for a day if heavy rain affects the area, but generally they are expected to fall over the course of this week. Flooding impacts are expected to continue well into June. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. If you have pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure that they are operating. This Flood Alert will be updated by 18:00 on Thursday 23/05/2024.
